The Adventures of Jasper Woodbury is an award-winning series of interactive video adventures designed to cultivate mathematical problem-finding and problem-solving skills in students (grades 5–8). Developed by Vanderbilt University’s Learning Technology Center in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development, the series represents years of innovative research in creating enriched learning environments that make math engaging and relevant. Through captivating narratives featuring pilot Jasper Woodbury, each ~15-minute episode presents open-ended, real-world challenges that encourage critical thinking, perseverance, and collaboration—essential for 21st-century math education.
Aligned with Common Core standards, the series integrates algebraic reasoning, geometry, statistics, and complex planning across four themed collections, supported by teacher guides, student worksheets, and debrief activities. Whether decoding messages, designing playgrounds, or optimizing emergency rescues, students discover the power of mathematics in solving authentic problems, building confidence and creativity in the classroom.
